I was asked to create work influenced by Lucy's work- this video! Which is great and so exciting. It's very different to my own work as I've never created an animation, video or sound piece- a a little daunting too!
I really enjoyed reading through her documentation and looking at her clay shapes, all the pieces were based loosely around dreams, the subconscious and taboos. I was intrigued by her clay "creatures" inspired by someones dream involving eating an umbilical cord of all things!
I tried making feutus's out of clay- even I'm not sure why - will take a couple of photos later, but not so keen on them!
Anyway, I decided to make some strange clay objects too, experimenting even with sleeping with the ball of clay in my hand [ it got gross and I had to give up at like 2 am] but I wanted the clay to have a dreamlike tactile feel. I then transferred some drawings based on objects from within my dreams onto the pieces, but only in certain sections- this drawing from my work with intricate patterns and salt dough last term.
Originally I wanted to present them as "Dreamsticks" like some kind of documentory evidence labelled and laid on a table, but practicalities meant I had no table. BUT. I looove the nails in the wall, I even quite liked them without the clay shapes too. The clay shapes also broke- another problem! BUT again, the fragmentation of dreams actually seemed to make this more interesting to me.
